Pairi Daiza: from abbey grounds to a world of wonder

In 1994, Eric Domb discovered the Domain of Cambron, an exceptional site in Brugelette with roots dating back to 1148. Captivated by its beauty, rich history and unique spirit, he decided to bring a dream to life there: to create a place where a sense of wonder reconnects people with nature.

At the time of its opening, Pairi Daiza, then known as Paradisio, was primarily an ornithological park. Today, awarded the title of “Best Zoo in Europe”, it has grown into far more than a zoo. Spread across 80 hectares, it takes visitors on a journey through worlds where nature, culture, architecture and spirituality come together in harmony.

But the essence of Pairi Daiza goes beyond wonder alone. As the park’s vision puts it so well, when people feel a sense of wonder, they are inspired to protect. Every landscape, every encounter with animals and every experience contributes to a greater awareness of both the beauty and the fragility of our planet. Wonder thus becomes a powerful driver for engagement in support of biodiversity. Today, Pairi Daiza has grown into Belgium’s leading tourist attraction, awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide and praised for its innovative hotel concepts.
